It is fast becoming a trend amongst parents and close relatives, not to mention nannies.
On the flight back to Nigeria, I met a granny who apparently was a guardian to a 1year old, seriously kissing the little boy as a show of affection and maybe merely being playful. Apart from the fact that I found that behaviour disgusting and incestuous, I couldn’t help but worry about what diseases the boy may be exposed to! I mean, who does that?!
I remember an only child of a close family friend who was more or less a ‘community’ baby, in the sense that every Tom, Dick and Harry in their area was practically kissing the baby on the lip, unknown to the parents. The child eventually had really bad meningitis!…but came out of it with major complications!
There are other viruses and bacteria the child could pick up too, such as the ‘kissing’ disease, also known as Mononucleosis.
Once you the parent stop this bad habit, others will stand to be corrected. You can kiss on the cheeks, forehead but definitely not on the lips.
